Over the years their have been many different myths surrounding apprenticeship, so here are the myths debunked!

Myth Number 1: Apprenticeships do not lead to a career
Apprenticeships provide real life work existence within companies and businesses and enable you to develop industry experience. Additionally, many companies offer apprenticeships with clauses that encourage your employment at the end of apprenticeship, some with guaranteed employment. By having multiple years of industry experience you are often a more favourable than other candidates as you understand the inner workings of companies.
Myth Number 2: Apprenticeships are only for "young people"
A common presumption is that apprenticeship is for people between 16-25 however, this is incorrect, apprenticeships are available to all ages and it is becoming increasingly common for apprenticeship intakes to have a greater age range.
Myth Number 3: Have poor pay
Although the minimum wage for an apprenticeship is lower than the national minimum wage, apprenticeships however offer you a salary whilst paying for your further education. On average the wage of an apprentice is £22,500 per year and when you add on the cost of education, the valuation of the course is far greater.
Myth Number 4: Apprenticeships are only for practical industries
Whilst this was certainly the case a decade ago, more and more apprenticeships are being released, with apprenticeships now available in business, journalism, aerospace, finance, and the medical industry.
Myth Number 5: Apprenticeships aren't as good as degrees
Their are now many different pathways to the same career, and apprenticeships offer the same level of education as degrees but with a paid salary and free education. A degree apprenticeship will offer you the same undergraduate degree at the same standard as any other university but will offer you the chance to gain industry experience.
Myth Number 6: Apprenticeships are for those whose struggled at school
Apprenticeships are tailored for everyone, regardless of their background, the entry requirements on apprenticeships create a standardised level available for all. Some apprenticeships have the same entry requirements as top level universities, some have none at all, it is dependant on the level that will be required by the apprenticeship.
Myth Number 7: Apprentices are required to do the jobs others don't like
The apprenticeship standard ensures that apprentices receive all the correct training and skills required for the job goal of the apprenticeship. Additionally, the government has a required of "Off the job hours" in which apprentices document their new learning each week to ensure that apprentices are not being used as cheap labour and doing the jobs no one else wants to.
