Brand new this year! By September 2024 the government aims to release a new Medical doctor degree apprenticeship that offers you the opportunity to earn money whilst earning your degree.
Unlike traditional Medical degrees, the new degree apprenticeship allows you to begin to practice from the beginning of your apprenticeship and work under a level of supervision corresponding to the level of competence at the time.
Key information about the new degree:
Duration of degree: 5 years
Start of apprenticeship: September 2024
Qualifications required: A-levels (or equivalent)
Age: 18+
Salary: Currently unknown
Qualifications at the end of the degree:
By the end of the degree apprenticeship, you will possess the same qualifications as every other medical student who goes through the "typical route" and have completed both a medical degree and a medical licensing assessment. Additionally, the apprenticeship will be required to meet the standards of the General Medical Council. This means that on the successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will be a fully licensed doctor without the tuition fees.
Why has the apprenticeship been introduced?
The government have introduced this new apprenticeship to produce a strong and long-term NHS workforce, as well as making medical degrees more accessible to learners who may not have the funds for the university route.
